During the civil war, many children were recruited or forced into to the military or rebel forces to fight.
Twelve years of civil war in Sierra Leone meant that during that time, most of these children missed out on a chance of an education or to gain any qualifications.
Although the civil war stopped may years ago, these former child soldiers are now young adults with no employable skills. Street Sports Hope will give young adults between the ages of 18 – 25 the opportunity to gain skills training, such as driving, carpentry and motor mechanic skills, so they can gain employment, an income and improved quality of life.
This part of our programme is classroom based. Through group discussion and debates, students will be able to voice their views, including dealing with the challenging subjects of alcohol and drug use, child labour exploitation and bullying, as well as developing literacy and numeracy, job training and creating a CV.
